The ALPG Tour heads literally into unchartered waters this week to New Caledonia, for the Sheraton New Caledonia Deva ALPG Pro-am. The event will mark the first time that an official women’s professional golf event has been played in the South Pacific Islands.

The Pro-am will be played over 36 holes on 23rd and 24th June at the magnificent Dye designed Sheraton Deva Course, with prizemoney of $40,000 on offer for the players, and will be the final event on the 2017-2018 ALPG Tour.
The Sheraton Deva Resort is a beach resort in the town of Bourail and is approximately 130km from the capital Noumea. The Resort sits at the base of the Deva domain and boasts stunning views, overlooking the ocean and UNESCO World Heritage barrier reef.

Sarah Kemp will be the highest-ranked player in the field and will start the clear favourite for the title. Kemp’s last tournament was the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco which she lost in a sudden-death playoff to Swede Jenny Haglund, who last week was again victorious on the Symetra Tour in the USA. Kemp also successfully qualified for the US Women’s Open coming up in two weeks time, and has travelled all the way from her base in Florida for this event so there is no doubt the New South Welshwoman will be determined to come away with the trophy this week.

Breanna Gill is another form player in the field, having finished 2nd, 1st and 2nd in her last three pro-ams, losing in playoffs at the Brisbane Invitational and most recently at the Shoalhaven Superheroes ALPG pro-am in Nowra last week.

While Kemp and Gill will be the event favourites this week, the player who will attract the most attention is New Zealand’s Phillis Meti, who is coming off a win last week at the World Long Drive Championship after smashing a 380-yard drive. Meti is now a three-time long drive world champion and still holds the women’s world record of 408 yards which she recorded in 2017.

The affable Kiwi was clearly happy to be back in the Oceania region to celebrate her victory.
" I am extremely honoured to be here this week as an ambassador of this exciting new event on the ALPG Tour. The course is absolutely fantastic and I am really looking forward to playing tomorrow, it is in amazing condition and the resort itself is first class"
