Karrie Webb

The Race to CME Globe is a new initiative by the LPGA this season, where players accumulated points throughout the LPGA season based on their performances, similar to PGA’s Fedex Cup.   Webb has had another stella season, winning the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open and the Founders Cup, along with another handful of top 10 finishes, including her runner-up finish at the Evian Championship.

Webb only played 18 events leading into this week, the least amount of tournament out of the top players, still accumulated enough points to  finish 9th in the Race and has an outside chance to win.  Webb’s chances are not great, she needs to win the event, which she is certainly capable of doing but also needs the likes of Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park not to be in contention.

The Race to the CME Globe is part of the season ending CME Group Tour Championship, which is being played this week at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida.

The winner of the championship will take home a $500,000 cheque.  Along with Webb, fellow Queenslander’s Katherine Kirk and Sarah Jane Smith also qualified for the season ending limited field event.  The field is only 72 players.

Kirk will be the first out in the opening round on Friday morning Australian time, she tees off at 9.50am Thursday local time.  Smith tees off at 10.12am local time, follow a half hour later at 10.34am by Webb.  Webb is paired with Chella Choi and Anna Nordqvist.

The CME Group Tour Championship is being shown live on Foxsports, coverage of the first round commences at 5.30am (EDST) on Fox Sports 1.
