Californian 10 year-old Lucy Li has entered the record books by becoming the youngest ever to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

Earlier this year, the 10-year-old made headlines by qualifying for the U.S. Women's Public Links Championship, then last month became the youngest ever to reach the match-play portion of the event, surpassing a mark previously set by Michelle Wie.

Originally from Redwood Shores, California, Li fired a 5-over 75 in the 18-hole sectional qualifier in Oakland and was one of eight women to advance from the 62-player field.

Li's score put her in a tie for fifth place, four shots behind medalist Mariko Tumangan and one shot better than the minimum score needed to qualify.

The par-70 course was set up at 5,827 yards.

Li had to rally to qualify. She was 5 over par after eight holes and 7 over after 13, but birdied two of her last three holes.

When this year's event begins next month, Li will be 10 years, 10 months and 4 days old, barely surpassing the record set just last year by Latanna Stone, who was 10 years, 11 months and 2 days old when she teed it up at The Country Club in Pepper Pike, Ohio.

The U.S. Women's Amateur will be held Aug. 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
