Australia's Nikki Campbell came agonisingly close to her first Ladies European Tour victory overnight at the Deloitte Ladies Open In Amsterdam. Campbell had started the final round 3 shots behind Scotland's Kylie Walker, but jumped out of the blocks to be 5 under par through her first 8 holes. As she stood on the 9th tee she was one shot clear of her rivals and looked in control of the tournament until a costly 3 putt bogey at 15 saw her slip back into a share of the lead.

Denmark's Malena Jorgensen, runner up in Turkey a few weeks ago set the clubhouse lead with a flawless round of 5 under par 67 which left Walker needing a birdie at the last to win outright. The Scot looked to have the tournament sewn up after hitting two majestic shots on the 506 yard 18th hole to the heart of the green but 3 putted to force a playoff with Campbell and Jorgensen.

On the 2nd playoff hole Walker holed a 20 foot putt to claim her first LET title and was obviously thrilled to win for the first time,

"I’ve never been in a play-off to win so it’s a whole new experience. I’ve been in in contention once or twice but not leading going into the final day so it’s so nice to feel confident about my game and having the chance to win.

I was just trying to play in the moment and take each shot as it comes and not get ahead of myself. I’d dreamt about winning for a long time and it’s a big dream come true so it had crossed my mind that it would be great to win but I just tried to stay focused on each shot playing one shot at a time and today especially I felt I controlled myself well and it was a consistent round"

Walker played on the ALPGTour in early 2014 and claimed a her first professional victory at the Renault Ladies Pro-am at Castle Hill Country Club against a top class field, a confidence boosting victory which oviously held her in good stead for her first tournament win.

Walker picked up a cheque for $37,500 Euros for the win while Campbell and Jorgensen had to settle for $21,437 euros each.
