Australian legend Karrie Webb will be doing something this week that she rarely gets to do, that is representing her country. Webb is part of the Australian Team that qualified earlier in the year for the inaugural International Crown.
Webb is joined by Katherine Kirk, Lindsey Wright and amateur Minjee Lee. The team was selected based on their position on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings at the end of March.
The International Crown is a first-of-its-kind, biennial, global match play competition featuring teams from eight countries battling for the right to be "Crowned" the world's best golf nation.
We caught up with Karrie this week to get her thoughts on the tournament.
Karrie Webb – Q & A
Q: What does it mean to you to represent Australia?
A: I haven't had the opportunity to represent Australia a lot as a pro so am really looking forward to being part of an Aussie team and flying the Australian flag!
Q: What are you looking forward to the most about the week?
A: I think I'm looking forward to hanging out with the girls and having fun in our matches.
Q: Australia is ranked 7th, what do you think the teams’ chances are?
A: Even though we are seeded 7 I think we are sneaky underdogs and if we can get off to a good start Thursday against Korea that will give us the confidence to continue playing well.
Q: What is your most anticipated match? Why?
A: I don't think there's a match up that I'm particularly focused on. Match play is a funny game...the best/player team doesn't always win.
Q: What do think about the Aussie team?
A: I think it's great that there's really 3 generations of Aussies in our team. I turned pro in the 90's, Katherine and Lindsey turned pro in the 2000's and Minjee is this generation. I think with that combo of youth and experience could be a good recipe for a good week!
Q: What do you think about the format, four ball?
A: I think the fourball format is one where you can really play your own game but also has enough different strategies to play as a team that make it very interesting.
